Users can designate a price range within which they are willing to make markets, reaping the same market making rewards with only a fraction of the previously required capital.

AMMs only use the current trading price of a given asset pair in order to execute trades. A large share of assets spread thinly across a wide price range are not utilized.
It is possible to put 100% of the assets to work with Concentrated Liquidity.

Fees are earned in proportion to the share of the money they control. In order to maximize opportunities for earning, LPs have a strong incentive to actively manage where their assets lie along the price curve. There will always be an incentive to shift assets to underserved portions of the pool, as this presents an opportunity to capture a much higher share of pool fees.
